Kara Fleming

For the last decade, Kara Fleming has drawn inspiration from the community and landscape around her for her drawings and paintings.

The connection and strength of female communities and the way that life goes through seasonal transformations is what inspires Fleming’s work. Provoked by her own experience of motherhood, Fleming attempts to freeze moments in the lives of women and children in her paintings and take a moment in the life span of natural materials and extend it by forcing them into new shapes and forms.

Her work has been a personal exploration since childhood, until recently when one of her sculptures was featured in Penny Print art studio’s classroom, and another was accepted into the Steven’s Point Sculpture Park. Fleming has studied art at the Cleveland Institute of Art after winning a scholarship and Scholastic Achievement Award and continued the pursuit of her BA at the Ohio State University and the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point over the last 15 years. Fleming has been receiving commissions and is seeking opportunities to build more public works as well as still pursuing her own paintings and explorations at her home studio. She intends to continue her education and earn a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy.
